Our Story

History of Clothesmaid

Jonathan has always loved working with wood as a creative material. It started with the homemade ‘porcupine’ welly holders and washing line props and then along came Clothesmaid the business, which he acquired in 2010.

Clothesmaid began its days in a Somerset farmhouse and is now based in the Staffordshire countryside.

It’s a real family affair, with input from everyone, including mischievous Peggy, who likes to spend her days in the office with her paws up by the heater, waiting for the occasional treat.

Sustainability

Our suppliers have been carefully selected and materials always sourced as close to home as possible.

The wood for the airers needs the best timber and ours is made only from sustainably sourced (from certified forests) Grade 1 Scandinavian pine via a UK wood mill and hand finished by us.

Recycling

Packaging is kept to a minimum. All cardboard is recycled in-house with waste boxes turned into protective packaging.

The battle with plastic is ongoing, we are always trying to cut down and find ways to reduce usage.
